Teaser: Mission Briefing - Gary Powers U-2 Spy Plane Recovered by Soviets

2113 July 27 - Canada, TCA Briefing Room
At the time, the CIA believe the Soviet Union not capable of shooting down the high-altitude U-2's. (It was possible because Rosenberg had provided the Soviet's with the tech.) The plane was supposed to self destruct and the pilot commit suicide; neither happened. On May 16, Khrushchev stormed out of the initial summit meeting with the United States, Great Britain, and France, "furious" about the U-2 incident.

Skills: History, Perception, Research

Success: Team will have intelligence on their destination which may be useful later.

Failure: Team will be less prepared when things go sideways.

Act 1: Downtime Mission Prep

1959 August/September - various possibilities: : CIA in Langley, Virginia; Pashawar, Pakistan; near Kusulino, Ural Region
The team may decide to jump back to the previous window in order to set thing up for everyone on 1 May 1960. As it's hard to predict exactly what the PCs will want to do, you–the GM–will need to wing this. The best way to do this is read up on the relevant events/agencies/background associated with this mission.

Skills: HT, History, House Keeping, Research, Soldier

Success: The team will be will prepared for April/May 1960: paper trails, eye witnesses, etc..

Failure: The team will be ill prepared for April/May 1960.

Act 2: Peril in Peshawar

1960 a few days before May 1 - at and near Peshawar, Pakistan
At the time, the CIA believe the Soviet Union not capable of shooting down the high-altitude U-2's. (It was possible because Rosenberg had provided the Soviet's with the tech.) The plane was supposed to self destruct and the pilot commit suicide; neither happened. On May 16, Khrushchev stormed out of the initial summit meeting with the United States, Great Britain, and France, "furious" about the U-2 incident.

Skills: Acting, Breaking and Entering! Explosives (Demolotion), Forensics, Perception, Observation, Stealth

Success: The team reverses Stopwatches tampering of the U-2 plane and Gary Power's saxitoxin sliver dollar.

Failure: The team is not able to undo the changes done by Stopwatch. They may be able to capture some Stopwatch agents when they attack and gather information that way.

Act 3: Showdown with Stopwatch

1960 a few hours before May 1 - Pakistan, Peshawar Air Station:
Stopwatch has a team observing the Peshawar Air Station. When the time is right–most likely, the night before the May 1st flight, Stopwatch will spring into action.

Skills: Combat!, Perception

Success: Team defeats Stopwatch while maintaining the secret of time travel. +2d% to Timepiece timeline; -2d% to Stopwatch timeline [IW226]

Failure: Team is defeated by Stopwatch, the U-2 and Powers are captured by the Soviet Union. As this mission was to undo the damage already done by Stopwatch, defeat simply means the timelines remain at the -2d% for Timepiece; +2d% Stopwatch values. I really botch may reduce both timelines by a further 1d%. [IW226]

Further Adventure Seeds

Mostly the 1930's and 1940's - Mostly the U.S.
There are several downtown adventures that the TCA might sent Timepiece agents on to undo Stopwatche's meddling in the Cold War. Stopwatch meddling generally favors the Soviet Union, as a stronger Soviet Union seems to lead to a WWIII–a seminal event in Stopwatch history.

Skills:Breaking and Entering! Investigation! Combat!

Success: Team influences events that favors the more democratic nations in the Cold War.

Failure: Team influences events that favor the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
