Teaser: Mission Briefing - Gary Powers U-2 Spy Plane Recovered by Soviets

At the time, the CIA believe the Soviet Union not capable of shooting down the high-altitude U-2's. (It was possible because Rosenberg had provided the Soviet's with the tech.) The plane was supposed to self destruct and the pilot commit suicide; neither happened. On May 16, Khrushchev stormed out of the initial summit meeting with the United States, Great Britain, and France, "furious" about the U-2 incident.

Scene 1: Mission Briefing

2113 July 27 - Canada, Time Control Authority (TCA), Briefing Room
The team is assembled and briefed for a downtime mission.

??? briefs the team. Remembers have brought it to our attention that the U2 Spy Plane shot down over Russia in 1960 did not self destruct and Gary Powers, its pilot, did not commit suicide. In fact, the Soviets recovered a virtually intact U2 Spy Plane and Gary Powers, who failed to make use of his saxitoxin silver dollar, was captured and interrogated by the KGB. This alteration in the timeline is almost certainly due to Stopwatch intervention. You team is being sent to the Peshawar Air Station, PAF Camp Badaber, near Peshawar, Pakistan to makes sure than on 1 May 1960, when Gary Power's U2 spy plane is shot down, the it does self destruct (as it was designed to do) and that Gary Powers does at least have his saxitoxin silver dollar on his person.

The closest window to May 1st is currently April 6th, so you have some time to prepare for your mission. (They'll be able to add 1 character point during this time--do they want to spend in here, or in 1960s?)

Success: They are motivated for their next mission.

Failure: They are unmotivated for their next mission.

Scene 2: Research

2113 July 27 - Canada, TCA Facility
The library at the TCA is possibly the best in the world.

Activities:

Research+2
Gary Powers was ultimately exonerated for any wrong doing.
Soviet access to the U2 tech resulted a longer period of balkanization, which Timepiece believes favors Stopwatch's timeline.
It was only due to proximity fuse technology provided by Julius Rosenberg that the Soviets were able to down Gary's U2.

Success: The team knows enough information to intelligently deal if things go sideways.

Failure: The team will be at a loss if things go sideways.
