Scene 1: Mission Briefing

Setting: In the large conference room of the USS Yorktown.

Activities:

Perception+10
Academics Chief, Lt. Sandira Vashenka (human) [LUG270] briefs much of the crew. The USS Yorktown will be doing surveys of various systems in this sector. To cover as many systems as quickly as possible, we will be making use of all our shuttlecraft: one shuttle per system. Each shuttelcraft team will survey a single system for a week, after which the Yorktown will return and retrieve you. While this type of work can be tedious, it will also provide you with an opportunity you see something besides the deck plating of your regular duty stations. With this in mind, the survey teams have been organized to incorporate as much of the crew as possible. Mission specific information will be provided to you as it becomes available. Are there any questions?

Success: They might have some teasers for future episodes.

Failure: They don't hear anything that attracts their attention.

Scene 2: Mission Prep

Setting: About the USS Yorktown.

Activities:

House Keeping+10 (or IQ-4)
see Handout which simply lists your team members, your system: the Telirek system, and exactly when to report to the shuttle bay.
Research+5 (or IQ)
Long Range Scans of Telirek System revealed a G2V and M2V binary system with a 26.7 to 86.8 AU seperation. If none of the PC's have the relevant science skills, then the NPC Lt. J.G. Julie McCormick (Acadmeics--Physical Sciences) will be the officer in charge.
Soldier (or IQ-5)
Shuttlecraft will already contain 5 type-2 hand phasers and a crash kit. An obvious choice for a tricorder disc would be Area Knowledge (Telirek System) and Planetary Cert. skills, e.g. Geology and Geography specialties.

Success: They are well prepared and well equipped for their survey mission.

Failure: They will probably still be fine.
